LtCol Miller enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1999 and was initially assigned to Bravo
Company, 4th Tank Battalion, where he enrolled in Platoon Leaders Course and completed Officer
Candidate School in 2002.
Upon graduation from Central Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial
Technology, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in June 2004. Following graduation from The
Basic School in June 2005, he was assigned to Training Air Wing 5 in Pensacola, Florida, and designated a
Naval Aviator in April 2007.
In January 2008, after completing replacement aircrew training in the CH-46E Sea Knight with Marine
Medium Helicopter Training Squadron (HMMT) 164 aboard MCAS Camp Pendleton, First Lieutenant
Miller reported to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 262, Okinawa, Japan. During this tour,
Captain Miller deployed multiple times in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU)
Maritime Contingency Force and conducted numerous theater security cooperation exercises and
contingency operations across the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility.
In December 2010, Capt Miller reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron (HMLAT)
303 for conversation training in the UH-1Y Venom and reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter
Squadron (HMLA) 469 in May 2011. Capt Miller deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation
Enduring Freedom 12.1-12.2 and also completed Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 2-13 during this
tour.
Capt Miller reported to I MEF Special Operations Training Group in May 2014, serving as an air officer
supporting planning and execution of predeployment training packages and special skills courses for the
11th, 13th, 15 th , and 31st MEUs, as well as Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force (SPMAGTF)
Africa and SPMAGTF-Crisis Response-Central Command.
In April 2017, Maj Miller completed U.S. Air Force Air Command and Staff College and reported to
HMLA-369 where he served as an aircraft maintenance officer and then squadron executive officer.
During this tour, he completed the Unit Deployment Program, participating in multiple theater security
cooperation exercises from expeditionary sites ashore and afloat across the Western Pacific.
Following another department head tour with HMLA-469, Maj Miller was selected to LtCol and ordered
to a joint duty assignment aboard Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada to serve in the capacity of the
USSTRATCOM J3E Joint Electromagnetic Preparedness for Advanced Combat, Chief of Plans & Tactics.
During his Joint Tour, LtCol Miller was responsible implementing the 2020 DoD Electromagnetic
Spectrum (EMS) Superiority Strategy.
LtCol Miller assumed his current duties as the 15th MEU executive officer in October 2023.
LtCol Miller’s has over 3000 flight hours in tactical aircraft; his personal decorations include the Defense
Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with combat “V” and strike/flight
numeral “6”, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3).
