Gunnery Sgt. Raul O. Chapa, radio chief, Command Element, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, talks to his Marines before re-enlisting on USS Peleliu, March 20. Chapa, 34, is from San Antonio, Texas, and joined the Marine Corps for a challenge to be a part of the best. He chose communications because it enabled him to be close to the infantry, and he was interested in the technology aspect. To pass the time on deployment, he enjoys going to the gym daily and spending time with his Marines. His favorite part of the deployment has been serving with the Command Element because it allowed him to gain a new perspective of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. He is looking forward to spending time with his family the most when he returns home. The 15th MEU is deployed as part of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group as a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force, providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
