U.S. Marine Sgt. Maj. Douglas Schaefer, right, presents the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Marine of the Week” award to Lance Cpl. Carissa Flores aboard the USS Essex (LHD 2) in the Indian Ocean, June 20, 2015. Schaefer is the sergeant major of the 15th MEU and Flores, from Oceanside, Calif., is an airframes mechanic with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (Reinforced), 15th MEU. After completing her three months on mess duty, where she performed to the best of her abilities with a positive and motivated attitude, she picked up right where she left off in her work center. Her work ranges from troubleshooting aircraft launches, to routine aircraft maintenance on the flight deck; which included the completion of five work orders, totaling upwards of 20 hours of maintenance. Her motivation to accomplish the mission and her positive attitude are extremely contagious and positively impact all who come in contact with her. She is a true professional who gives 100 percent toward whatever task she is assigned, whether it is working in the mess or fixing aircraft. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Anna Albrecht/Released)
