ARABIAN SEA (June 26, 2015) U.S. Marine Sgt. Maj. Douglas Schaefer, right, presents the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Marine of the Week” award to Cpl. Damon Dryden aboard the USS Essex (LHD 2). Schaefer is the sergeant major of the 15th MEU and Dryden is an AV-8B Harrier airframes mechanic with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (Reinforced), 15th MEU, from Jeffersonville, Indiana. Dryden’s maintenance work ethic, leadership and knowledge are apparent throughout his shop and contagious among the Marines he mentors and works with. He is a collateral duty instructor and supervises safe maintenance practices during day-to-day maintenance tasks and has signed off on a total of 51 jobs totaling over 400 man-hours. He also worked tirelessly during two phase maintenance evolutions pulling a wing and engine to facilitate additional maintenance troubleshooting. The 15th MEU is embarked on the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and deployed to maintain regional security in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
