GULF OF ADEN (July 1, 2015) U.S. Marine Capt. Edward Gonzales pins new rank insignia onto Gunnery Sgt. Michael Washington during his promotion ceremony on the forecastle of the amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23). Washington is the company gunnery sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Anchorage is part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
