NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO (Aug. 9, 2006) -- Cpl. Vic B. Madrillejos, infantry squad leader, and Lance Cpl. Armando Avila, infantry assault man, assess injured Marines and civilians during a Force Protection Exercise on Pier 8. Madrillejos, a native of Sacramento, Calif., and Avila, a native of Houston, are Marines with Echo Co., Battalion Landing Team 2/4, which is attached to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The main purpose of this exercise was for the Expeditionary Strike Group 5 and the 15th MEU to practice different force protection levels, pier security, stability, and to work together to maximize their unit capabilities.
