Marines with 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company Detachment, guided an aircraft to drop a 500 pound GBU-12 bomb on a target, from an observation post, in the Chocolate Mountains, Calif., May 11. The training scenario involved their team conducting close air support operations when they requested assistance from the Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel Platoon over the radio, after they received contact from a notional local enemy attack force. The training was conducted to increase the competency of the TRAP force and as a part of the ground portion of Realistic Urban Training, which the 15th MEU is conducting in preparation for their deployment scheduled for this fall.
