Marines, Afghanis Work Together Keeping Airport Secure;

20 Dec 2001 | Sergeant Joseph R. Chenelly 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit

U.S. Marines with Task Force-58 and local Afghan soldiers are working together daily to maintain the perimeter around the American occupied Kandahar International Airport.

Marines and Afghanis interact daily along the lone road leading to an American controlled entry point, facilitating media, local contractors and governmental officials.

Anyone entering the compound must first be searched and cleared by the Afghans and then by Task Force-58.

Marines from the 15th and 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) secured the airport December 13, 2001 during Operation Swift Freedom.
