Marines and Sailors,
The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) is a cornerstone of America's '911 Force" and as such, we shall maintain a mission focus in everything we do. Mission success is inexorably linked to our people. Superior leadership, hard training, and a strict adherence to our core values is the bedrock upon which the 15th MEU is built. We will be unwavering in our commitment to these fundamental principles. They must guide all we do as both a unit and as individuals.
We, as 15th MEU Marines, Sailors, and Civilian Marines, are a Band of Brothers. Every member of the command has earned their place and all should contribute 100 percent to the mission. Every member of our team deserves job satisfaction, equal consideration, and recognition of their contributions and accomplishments. The diversity of experience, cultures, educational, and social backgrounds within the 15th MEU strengthens our team and any actions or attitudes that detract or diminish the fundamental self worth or contributions of individual members are unacceptable.
Positive leadership must be exercised at all levels. Marines should have a bias for action, set the example, "do the right thing", or intervene in order to stop unsafe or inappropriate things from occurring. Taking care of Marines and Sailors goes hand in hand with accomplishing the mission and is a pillar of good leadership. Know your Marines, challenge them mentally and physically, be aware of their professional and family situation, and set the conditions for them to succeed. Marines take care of Marines!
Accountability is a vital component of leadership - accountability for our Marines and Sailors, for our equipment, and for our actions. We have been entrusted with our nation's greatest resource, the sons and daughters of America; we must not betray that trust. Lead by example and uphold the highest standards of our Corps.
We ask much of our Marines and Sailors and ours is rarely an easy task. Take pride in what we do, focus on the positive, and take the time to acknowledge the hard work and success of our people. Create an environment that builds camaraderie and esprit de corps. Remember, while our task is demanding it should be rewarding and fun.
Simper Fidelis,
J. R. O'Neal
